DALLAS, TX — A traffic stop quickly turned dangerous on Monday afternoon when a woman with an outstanding warrant allegedly ran over a police officer after a minor collision in north Dallas.
According to Dallas Police Department reports, the incident began when the suspect, Monique Harris, 28, struck another vehicle in a parking lot near Maplewood Drive. Officers responding to the accident discovered Harris had an active warrant for a previous offense.
When confronted by an officer, Harris reportedly attempted to flee the scene in her vehicle. During the attempt, she allegedly backed into and struck the responding officer, causing minor injuries. The officer was treated on-site and later released.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as Harris tried to drive away while officers blocked the surrounding streets. Police say that after a short pursuit, Harris was apprehended and taken into custody without further incident.
Harris is currently facing multiple charges, including assault on a police officer, evading arrest, and hit-and-run. Authorities confirmed that she remains in custody at Dallas County Jail pending her initial court appearance.
“This is exactly the kind of reckless behavior that endangers our community and our officers,” said Dallas Police Chief Richard Navarro. “We take incidents like this very seriously and will pursue all appropriate charges.”
The Dallas Police Department reminds drivers to cooperate with law enforcement and to address outstanding warrants to prevent situations that can quickly escalate into violence.
