GREENFIELD, OH — A shopping trip ended in a dramatic arrest Saturday when a woman allegedly tried to steal hundreds of dollars’ worth of merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods and resisted police officers.

According to store officials, the suspect, Tasha Reynolds, 24, filled her cart with various sporting goods items and attempted to leave the store without paying. Loss prevention staff intervened and alerted police.

When officers arrived, Reynolds reportedly tried to flee the scene but was tackled in the parking lot after a brief chase. Police said she struggled during the arrest but was eventually placed in handcuffs and transported to Greenfield Police Department.

While in the police car, Reynolds reportedly made several statements attempting to downplay the incident. “Y’all, it’s my birthday, c’mon y’all tripping,” she allegedly said. She later claimed her mother had recently died, a statement authorities later determined to be false.

Reynolds is now facing charges of theft, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. She was booked into the Greenfield County Jail and remains in custody pending her initial court appearance.

“The safety of our staff and the public is always our top priority,” said a spokesperson for Greenfield Police. “Attempts to steal merchandise and evade officers are taken very seriously.”

Loss prevention officials say the store recovered the majority of the merchandise and that no employees were injured during the incident.

This case serves as a reminder that shoplifting and resisting law enforcement carry serious consequences, and attempts to mislead officers will not mitigate charges.
